What is NCS?
Our NCS programme takes place during the Summer holidays and is a practical follow-on to students’ PSHE and Citizenship learning as well as connecting them and their school or college to their local community. All participants receive government funding of £1,300 to cover the cost of residential stays, activity centres, skills building workshops and trained practitioners to guide them through a Team Challenge. During this once-in-a-lifetime experience they build skills, confidence and resilience to help them get ahead in work, learning and life.
Since 2011, the Cabinet Office’s NCS Programme has benefited 200,000 young people from more than 90% of our schools and colleges across the country and funding is in place for a further 100,000 participants in 2016. With many of the schools and colleges in Canterbury District already involved in the programme for 2015 and 2016, we’re excited to be working with CXK to bring this opportunity to all eligible local students this year.
