Creative Think Tank
What is your enquiry catalyst?
How we can use creativity to motivate and engage students?
Objectives
We want to enable our pupils to explore, to enquire and become curious – to raise the pulse rate of those involved. We want to use this opportunity to test the methods of working creatively across departments to give us an idea of how the Diploma in Creative and Media will work effectively within our school
Activity
The enquiry will commence with a two day creative INSET/Induction led by Peter Cook for participating staff and students. The days will include a number of short practical activities designed to encourage new ways of thinking and spark a host of ideas. We will invite pupils to the event with a postal invitation, they will not know why they have been selected and we will encourage them to discover this together. We want to create a buzz on the playground which will continue once the enquiry starts with small happenings taking place to get students talking about and thinking about their learning. Following the two days the practitioner will work with a group of 20 students (10 from year 9 and 10 from 10 – 12 mixed) during 6 sessions taking place on Wednesdays. Each of these sessions will be with a different teacher – media, art, photography, product design music and drama. The teacher will be work with Peter to design a mini enquiry to happen on their day, it may be talking stand up comedy into lessons, making music with recycled materials or developing an animation. Students were chosen following discussion between staff to select 20 pupils who would be ideal Creative and Media Diploma students. Peter was selected to work on this project as he has vast experience of working successfully across departments, he is also interested in the idea of journaling and able to lead on music, film, drama based projects. At the end of the sessions another 2 day INSET will take place to reflect upon and showcase what has been learnt, we will invite additional pupils and teachers to this event and possibly parents.
