How could we best implement a teaching framework that develops active thinking and problem solving skills across early-years science?
Objectives
The school's science co-ordinator felt there was a gap in children's thinking skills. Using a creative approach to close this gap would raise attainment by way of presenting the children with new challenges and higher expectations.
Activity
- Mini Museums - Ugly Bugs Ball Each early-years class worked with one practitioner. Development of fine motor skills across both tasks eg. Use of camera and casting techniques. Parents of the children will attend a show case day to view the work of the children. There will be a film shot by the students and photos of their mini-museums.
Outcomes and Sustainability
The teachers learnt new art techniques and rudimentary techniques when using Digital Blue Cameras. Segmenting overall projects into sequential tasks. Both teachers feel that they will be able to use some or all of these techniques in the future when working with other children.
