How can we support Young People and their surrounding communities to actively engage with the five Ebbsfleet Landmark proposals?
Future Creative was commissioned by the Ebbsfleet Landmark Patrons (Eurostar, London Continental Railways & Land Securities) to design and deliver a community engagement programme that involved the communities of North Kent in the commissioning process of the Ebbsfleet Landmark.
Future Creative, commissioned by the Ebbsfleet Landmark Patrons (London & Continental Railways, Eurostar, Land Securities), designed and produced a community engagement programme that worked with approximately 100 young people from five secondary schools in Gravesham and Dartford. The programme enabled the young people to engage with the concepts and ideas that inspired the five Ebbsfleet Landmark proposals put forward by Mark Wallinger, Rachael Whiteread, Christopher Le Brun, Richard Deacon and Daniel Buren.
A film was made that encapsulated the young people’s responses to the five Ebbsfleet proposals and was shown to the selection panel ahead of the announcement of Mark Wallinger as the winning artist. To view the video please visit the 'Rescources' section of our website
Outcomes and Sustainability
The Young People involved in the project have developed their understanding of public art, and the process of application and selection thereof. They have also learnt about the importance of their environment and the way that it must be considered and can even be curated. The Young People have consequently become ambassadors for the Ebbsfleet Landmark. Through their active input and enquiry into the selection process they have taken ownership of Mark Wallanger’s successful proposal.
We are in the process of applying to execute phase two of the Landmark Link project. Which proposes to expand upon the work completed in phase one, and running alongside the development of Wallanger’s artwork.
