Cultural Baton
What is your enquiry catalyst?
How can we support Young People and their communities to engage with the concept of the Kent Cultural Baton proposals and the wider Cultural Olympiad?
Objectives
The Cultural Baton Community Engagement Programme was developed and delivered by Future Creative in parallel with the commissioning phase of the Cultural Baton project during the autumn of 2009. It will engage locally with children and young people from one primary, two secondary and one special school.
Activity
Through engaging in a diverse range of creative activities, The Cultural Baton initially focused upon exploring the notion of public art and its impact on the community with which it interacts. Four schools around Kent worked with Future Creative Partners, over six workshop sessions. Activities within the workshops addressed the links between culture and sport, examining ways in which ideas about Olympic endeavour could be explored through creativity. This work culminated in a celebratory event “Towards a Kent Cultural Baton” during which the winning proposal was announced. A film was made to document activities within the creative workshops and to record the development of those involved in the Cultural Baton Community Engagement Programme. Outcomes and Sustainability
Activities executed as part of the Cultural Baton Community Engagement Programme should have a sustainable and far-reaching effect. As well as providing schools with a unique ‘living resource’, the project offered teachers a significant professional development opportunity.
