Approaches to Creative Learning
Andrew's approach to creative learning is very much an organic process, relying much upon the students input. He feels it is important to find out from the students what is relevant to them, so that they can take ownership of a project. Andrew wants to break down the barriers to learning that can build up in traditional education, to open minds and get children to relish their imagination, and really dig deep in the idea generating process. Most importantly Andrew listens to students' ideas; there is never a bad idea in the creative process. When relating to his own practice he tries to find the best ways of getting students to push the boundaries of what they consider to be a film or a piece of sound, wanting them to realise that there can be no wrong way of being creative, as long as they have considered the process and thought openly about it. When he was studying art at school Andrew was constantly being reprimanded for not being able to draw properly, at that age all he thought being creative meant was being able to draw, so he is dedicated to trying to change that misconception about creativity in a larger sense.
