Young people lead the way with Landmark Link
21 January 2009
A screening of short films was held by Future Creative on Wednesday 14th January, hosted by Bluewater. The films told the story of young people’s experiences in relation to the Ebbsfleet Landmark.
Future Creative, a Kent-based Community Interest Company, has been working with young people from five local secondary schools – Swan Valley Community School, Longfield Academy, Northfleet Technology College, Northfleet Girls’ School and St John’s RC Comprehensive - to help them engage with the concepts and ideas that inspired the five Ebbsfleet Landmark proposals. The project was funded by the Ebbsfleet Landmark patrons: Eurostar, London and Continental Railways and Land Securities.
The young people have not only become the champions of the Ebbsfleet Landmark, but have raised their ambitions to become a future generation of young cultural and civic leaders whose growing skills, aspirations and confidence will enable them to achieve a successful future within the new Ebbsfleet Valley community. With ongoing support and investment, these young people will become the bridge between the two communities, old and new and the key to the long term success of the regeneration process.
The young people designed and led the presentation, which was attended by Mayors and Counsellors from Dartford and Gravesham, plus representatives from local businesses, educational establishments and the Ebbsfleet Landmark patrons.
The winning Landmark proposal will be announced at the end of January. Future Creative is hoping to secure funding to continue the project for a further two years, building on the initial investment of the Ebbsfleet patrons, to help engage the broader communities of Gravesham and Dartford.
