Future Creative wins bid for Hertfordshire 14-16 Alternative Curriculum Contract

05 July 2010

Future Creative’s winning tender bid: ‘Exciting Minds’ aims to work with disengaged young people and give them the skills and confidence to support their learning and development. Working in collaboration with Future Creative, the young people involved will be encouraged, through creative activity, to explore child development, storytelling and sensory learning. The skills developed by the young people through this process will strengthen their self-confidence, raise aspirations and equip them with skills for life.

The programme will run for a period of twelve half-day sessions throughout the academic year and will incorporate a wealth of opportunities and experiences. Future Creative Partners will work with young people to support interactions, engagement and communication; helping the young people to explore how the five senses influence learning and development, and create sensory experiences that allow them to reflect on their journey.

During the ‘Exciting Minds’ course the young people will explore:

·         Simple craft techniques such as, weaving, needlepoint, glass painting, jewellery making, patchwork, felt making and paper craft.

·         The theory and practice of child development including brain development and the positive effects of creative learning.

·         The content of stories and how to use their own ideas, memories and everyday activities to develop personnel stories.  The young people will make simple objects to create stories and be encouraged to communicate their stories to others.

·         The effect of multi-sensory investigation discovering how smell, tastes and touch effect their emotions and feelings.
