Headteachers Creativity in Leadership Residential
02 March 2010
Future Creative and Advisory Service Kent (ASK) designed and facilitated an exciting and groundbreaking two day residential professional development programme for Headteachers and Early Years Managers of schools and settings engaged with the “Buddying Project”.
The “Buddying Project” involves 32 Early Years settings across North Kent and aims to develop children’s well-being and involvement. The residential programme gave participants an opportunity to refresh and enhance their perspective and practice around leadership of creative learning environments. We provided a dynamic, fun and interactive learning environment in which participants engaged with their own professional development; explored how creativity can inform learning and raise standards; investigated the role of leaders in supporting creative teaching and learning and offered participants space to re-connect with current Early Years thinking and practice. The event took place at `Oxon Hoath’; a converted country house with extensive grounds offering unique resources for interactive learning. Here are some of the quotes from Headteachers taking part in the Creativity in Leadership residential:
‘These two days have reminded me that we, as Headteachers, are so focused on results and the curriculum that we have stifled not only our own creativity but that of others in our schools. It’s now shouting to be let out!’
‘I now realise that the best results will come through creativity’
‘This approach is not easy but it’s worth sticking at because it will make such a difference to children, to parents, to teachers and to communities!’
‘This is what I’ve always wanted to do and now I feel I can do it!’
‘Through these two days we have become a network of support’
‘The barriers between schools and settings have been brought down by this shared experience’
‘I don’t think I realised how powerful this experience would be’
‘You have given us the structure to support our practitioners to make this happen’
‘I didn’t believe I was creative in anyway, but what I can see happening here is that we are drawing the creativity from each other’
